Scissor jacks are also in the boom jack category. They are utilized regularly by service businesses as an ideal system to allow workers to finish maintenance and repair on wires and cables that are attached to poles. Telephone, cable and power companies have relied on the proficiency of this kind of boom lift for years.

The knuckle boom lift is built for use within areas of uneven ground and where the need to change direction may be necessary. This kind of boom jack has the capability to fit in tight spots where a scissor jack cannot fit. Working among numerous equipment in a production plant or in close proximity stuck between two walls, the knuckle boom additionally features a standard table fitted with rails for security and employee safety.

A pallet jack is equipment intended especially for moving pallets of differing weights and dimensions. They can be utilized in conjunction with cranes, forklifts and other heavy duty equipment as an accessory piece or to be employed on their own. Pallet hoists are existing in a range of configurations from several companies who design shipping and stockroom equipment. They can be loaned, or ordered second-hand from used equipment sellers if a company might not want to invest in the cost of this device.

Pallet jacks are commonly configured with a set of forklift forks, which can be used to slide under a pallet, together with a bar to steady a pallet when being lifted. Certain kinds of pallet lifts have been given a hydraulic lift to be used to lift and lower the pallet. Occasionally, jacks may be permanent with operations being accomplished by an overhead haul or by a tractor. Commonly used in the on and offloading of trucks, ships and trains, they can also organize and rearrange stockroom materials and transporting resources around a stockroom.

If pallets contain valuable items or finished merchandise or they are very heavy, the managing of certain pallets might become a complex process. Sometimes it is necessary to receive worker training prior to operating a pallet jack or heavy equipment. Learning the correct handling procedures, how to avoid danger symptoms including an unequally burdened pallet, or how to identify a broken pallet that might fail as a result of fatigue cracks or forceful treatment is vital for sustaining a safe work environment.

Electrical products can be refer as very common term. It contain several products which are vary from each other can be termed as “electrical”. Electrical products provide a vital service which is essential to modern life. There are various types of electrical products which are used in our daily life i.e. electrical wires, electrical sockets, switch gears, cords etc.

Electrical Wires : Electrical wire is a group of metallic conductors which are used to carry electricity power from one end to another or you can say from manufacturing unit to the consuming unit. These are very popular among all because these electrical wires are used in each and every field where electricity used. There are different types of electrical wires which are used in our daily life. All types of wires are made of copper and aluminum and an insulator which cover the conductors. These conductors may be either hard or standard but insulation material should be made of rubber and plastic which protect us from shocks. These wires should be flexible as well as strong.

Electrical Sockets : These are the small devices which are used to connect electric gadgets from the main power so that appliances may be operate through electric current. These sockets are also called power sockets which have holes inside them. Electrical sockets generally made of plastic and metal. There are various types of electrical sockets which are used in our residential applications i.e. floor socket, extension sockets, switch sockets, plcc sockets, round pin sockets, two hole sockets, three hole sockets etc.

There is probably no material that has shaped the progression of mankind more than metal. Several different types of metals exist in the environment. With the exception of metals such as gold, most metals have to be extracted from rock ore. Rock ore is a volume of rock containing minerals. Metal is so important in the history of mankind because of its influence on industry. During ancient times, locations rich in ores tended to make the people living in that area richer and more powerful. Before the dawning of the Iron Age, societies with access to copper and tin could sell the minerals to others who wished to produce bronze.

Clearly, being able to find and possess rock ore and, eventually, metal was important. After extraction, however, one must have the knowledge of metalworking. Metalworking is the title given to any art form, craft, hobby or trade that involves working with metal. Metal is pretty useless in its natural state. Someone must know how to change the form of metal in order to make it into something useful. Many people throughout history and in modern times have made a career out of molding and shaping metal. These professions were extremely valued during ancient times.

With the consistent worldly demand for metal, and the broad variety of professions specializing in the bending, shaping and molding of metal, it only makes since that there are several techniques for bending metal. Anyone who has held a screw driver or used a frying pan knows that metal is hard. In actuality, different metals have different levels of ductility. Ductility refers to a metals ability to bend without fracturing. Metals can crack and break under stress. Every metal differs in its ability to withstand stress. For that reason, several different techniques have developed over the years to improve the humankind’s metal forming ability.

One modern technique used to shape metal is called roll forming. Roll forming is typically used to shape sheet metal. Roll forming machinery consists of several sets of consecutive rolls. Each set of rolls is called a stand. As the metal passes through each stand it is bent slightly. Each stand incrementally contributes to the bending of the metal until the desired shape is achieved. A roll forming machine will shape a piece of metal into a specified cross-section profile. A variety of cross-section profiles can be obtained through roll forming. The process of roll forming allows modern industrial metalworkers to shape several pieces of metal in a short amount of time. Such efficiency helps to mass produce products and meet societies demand for metal at a fast rate. Although the methods for shaping and forming metal have changed with technology over the years, the demand for and value of metal has remained consistent.

In 2012, The best year for business in the last 4 years! That is what I have been told by numerous companies across this country. With the overwhelming talk about unemployment you may ask, which industry is this? It’s the metal manufacturing industry. Any Mainer who watches the news can tell you that.

Governor LePage has been holding a number of meetings all across this state. He has been trying to find ways to help these growing companies. Me to! Have any ideas? Let’s brainstorm, you can check me out on Linkedin.

The two biggest problems that we in the metal industry have are qualified people and image. A great deal of our qualified people are “baby-boomers”. Over the last few years, they have stated retiring. This will increase dramatically over the next decade. So where are the qualified people to replace and replenish the industry? Who’s being trained to take over? Who wants to take over the careers in metal manufacturing?

Matt Ferguson, CEO of Career Builder said on CNBC’s outlook for 2012 that “21% of the biggest small businesses will he hiring”. “The lack of qualified workers” is a big concern. In fact “more companies are having training at the job.”

The younger generation has been taught that manufacturing is dirty. People that I talk to who aren’t in the metal industry, still picture a smelly, dark, moldy, over run, dirty place that no one wants to work at. Not true, in fact most manufacturing shops are cleaner than your own bathroom.

The professionals who operate modern machinery have to be good at computers, math and engineering. Intelligent people, who want to work, can work! With so many people looking for work this is a great opportunity. That sounds like a wonderful future for our next generation.

Part of what made this great country a “power-house” was manufacturing. A few years back a lot of companies started sending manufacturing jobs overseas. They said it was to save money. How many of them forgot to add in the extra shipping costs, time, delivery time and hassle. As this happened we lost not only American Jobs, we lost our stand in the world.

With the operation of heavy equipment in construction sites, safety is to be the top priority at all times. Data presented by the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics explains that thousands of workers are injured or killed every year by accidents that occur in construction sites. As of 2007, more than 30% of accounted work-related accidents have happened in construction areas, and are caused by different factors. Construction lifts like fork lifts, boom lifts, and cranes, can be very dangerous if they are not operated by licensed and experienced personnel. Furthermore, the Bureau of Labor Statistics adds that because of management neglect, a lot of these machines malfunction and cause accidents. If construction lifts are not periodically maintained and repaired, there is a higher chance of causing harm to workers around them.

What are some of the possible accidents that can occur on construction lifts? Some people can be run over by this heavy equipment, or may fall from them if they are not taking safety precautions. If operators are not careful about manning these lifts, they can overturn and cause damage to structures or injure workers on foot. To be able to avoid the possibility of employees getting run over or struck by fork lifts or other construction lifts, the management must lay down traffic rules within the work place, and equip their machines with warning devices like alarms. Areas of passage for the machines must be kept clear off debris to avoid tipping over.

How can supervisors in construction sites and their employees reduce the risk of accidents with lifts of any kind? As mentioned before, not all workers can man heavy machinery. Most laws of state signify that a school certification and testing is required before anyone can operate heavy equipment. To avoid accidents such as items falling from construction lifts, each worker assigned must be responsible enough to secure crates, pallets, boxes, and the like. Since these machines have a maximum load limit, it is very important to keep track of how much is being loaded onto the lifts. Overloading is often the cause of many work-related accidents on lifts, as well as machine malfunction and failure.
